Governance & Social Value
Social Value can be defined as the positive impact on communities, the local economy, and the environment that organisations create when buying goods & services, delivering services to customers, and supporting their wider network of stakeholders.
SIL Social Value
The SIL Social Value Strategy was launched in February 2023 based on the national TOMs framework. Our Social Value is now assessed across twenty measures, clustered within five themes:
- Jobs – Promote Local Skills and Employment
- Growth – Supporting Responsible Regional Growth
- Healthier, Safer, and more Resilient Communities
- Decarbonising and Safeguarding our World
- Promoting Social Innovation
Armed Forces Covenant
SIL has pledged to support the Armed Forces Covenant, the covenant is a written and publicised voluntary pledge from businesses and other organisations who wish to demonstrate their support for the armed forces community.
The covenant’s twin underlying principles are that members of the armed forces community should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services; and that special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given the most such as the injured or the bereaved.
Herefordshire has a high proportion of residents with links to the armed forces which makes it more significant to be able to support this initiative. SIL has pledged to support the employment of Service spouses and partners; to support the employment of veterans young and old; to offer a degree of flexibility in granting leave for Service spouses and partners before, during and after a partner’s deployment; and supporting employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces. SIL is proud to make this commitment to be a part of the Armed Forces Covenant, and welcome enquiries about any of our services or our jobs from veterans or Service families.
