Direct Payment Support Services
In 1996 a group of disabled people started campaigning for a direct payment (DP) scheme in Herefordshire. This group called themselves the Herefordshire Centre of Independent Living (HCIL). The campaign was a great success and Herefordshire Council began offering DPs as an alternative to council provided care at home.
Who can benefit?
Soon after HCIL changed its name to Services for Independent Living and we now support over 300 individuals in receipt of a DP who choose their own care, support and activities that enrich their lives.
Our direct payment support service (DPSS) can help those in receipt of a DP or personal health budget (PHB) with the day-to-day management and financial administration that it encompasses. We can manage your payroll, pension administration and bookkeeping on your behalf. We also provide advice and support on all the personnel (HR) issues that may arise as an employer.
Receiving direct payments is not for everyone as you do need to account for the money, organise your own care and ensure the bills are paid. However, if you prefer to have more choice over your care and support, we are here to help. And you don’t need to worry about our fees. If you are in receipt of a direct payment, our costs will be met by the authority supporting you.
